About the role
Be responsible for driving business growth through a balanced focus on strategic planning, team leadership, and direct customer engagement. The role leads a small team of five while maintaining a hands-on approach to developing new business opportunities and expanding existing customer relationships. Success in the role is measured through revenue growth, customer acquisition and retention, market expansion, and team performance.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Leading business development strategy and activities to achieve sustainable growth across new and existing customers, while driving revenue growth through new customer acquisition, customer retention, account development, and conversion of the sales opportunities.
- Building and maintaining strategic customer and industry relationships, identifying opportunities to strengthen the organisation's market position.
- Leading and developing a high-performing Business Development Team, providing clear direction, coaching, accountability, and capability development.
- Translating market and customer insights into growth opportunities, including new markets, products, services, and strategic partnerships.
- Working collaboratively across the wider business to ensure opportunities are effectively developed, transitioned, and delivered, creating a seamless customer experience.
- Championing consistent business development practices, performance reporting, and continuous improvement, providing insights and recommendations to support organisational decision-making.
This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours Monday to Friday) that would ideally be based in Auckland from your Home Office, but the location can be flexible within New Zealand for the right candidate.
About You:
Ideally, we are looking for someone with:
- Proven sales experience in a commercial environment
- A good level of experience with business development and relationship management, including the ability to take an investigative and consultative approach to fully understand.
- Sound knowledge in leading strategic approach in a business with creative problem solving skills and the ability to take calculated risks.
- Proven people leadership experience with well-developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence without authority
- Knowledge of the Agriculture sectors that we deal with at Primary ITO, as well as existing relationships with some of those sectors.
